The University of Melbourne continues to develop and lead innovations in learning and teaching, from emerging technologies in e-learning to innovative curriculum design.
Here is a selection of recent University of Melbourne learning and teaching innovations.
Executives in Residence
The Department of Accounting and Business Information Systems Centre for Accounting & Industry Partnerships launched its Executive-in-Residence program on 26 March. Four ‘Fellows’ have been appointed Executives-in-Residence for the period 2010 through to 2011.
Melbourne Business Practicum - Subject innovation
The Graduate School of Business and Economics and the Committee for Melbourne officially launched the Melbourne Business Practicum on Monday 15 February at the Royal Botanic Gardens.
The University has partnered with the Committee for Melbourne to create the specialised subject, taking students beyond the classroom. The Committee for Melbourne’s Higher Education Taskforce developed the concept and has been instrumental in locating appropriate enterprises requiring high-level research. The practicum projects allow both local and international graduate students to polish their skills working on real projects in conjunction with local businesses.
PRAZE - Online student peer review system
PRAZE is a Web-based system that automates the process of students reviewing each others’ work.
Engineering Systems Design (ESD) - New subject design
The “ESD team” of Prof Jamie Evans, A/Prof David Shallcross, A/Prof Andrew Ooi, A/Prof Ray Dagastine and Dr Gavin Buskes have embraced the new active learning paradigm and employed innovative teaching methods to design and deliver a new first year engineering experience that is unique to the University of Melbourne.
